Driving in Boulder can be an interesting experience. As with any town, there are some thing you can be more aware of to help you on your way.

Flashing Crosswalks

Boulder has many controversial crosswalks fitted with flashing LEDs to alert drivers when pedestrians or bicycles are crossing.

Roundabouts

Roundabouts, or traffic circles, can be found on a selection of streets in Boulder, notable Pine St. at 15th and 17th, and Spruce St. at 18th. These are designed to keep the flow of traffic going more efficiently than a two or four-way stop would, but some drivers aren't sure how to react to them. Faced with pedestrians and bicycles in addition to other cars, some drivers speed through them whereas others come to a full stop until the circle is cleared.

Flashing Yellow Arrow

The FYA on left turns happens after the green turn signal in place of a solid green light. Drivers are allowed to make a left turn on a flashing signal, but should use caution as oncoming traffic has a green light and the right of way. It was adopted in 2010 and is in place at the following intersections:

  • Table Mesa and Tantra drives
  • 30th and Walnut streets
  • Baseline Road and 30th Street
  • Broadway and Iris Avenue
  • 30th and Pearl streets
